Kamikochi Bus Terminal
About the Kamikochi Camera
Kamikochi is a high valley at around 1,500 metres in Chubu-Sangaku National Park, reached by a single road through a tunnel and closed to private cars. Everyone arrives by bus or taxi, which makes this bus terminal the front door to the whole valley. The camera is run by the Nature Parks Foundation and streams in 4K.
Its framing is deliberate: a stand of larch with the Hotaka range behind and, on clear nights, the stars above. The Azusa River runs clear and cold through the valley a short walk away, and Kappa Bridge, the classic Kamikochi viewpoint, is minutes from the terminal.
The valley has a season rather than a year. Kamikochi opens around the middle of April and closes in mid-November, when the road shuts and the hotels empty for winter. Watch in October for larch turning gold against the peaks; watch in deep winter and you will see a closed and silent terminal under snow.
