Miura Beach In Kanagawa
About the Miura Beach Camera
Miura Beach runs along the eastern side of the Miura peninsula, facing the mouth of Tokyo Bay. The water here is busy with shipping, so the view regularly includes vessels working up and down the bay, and on a clear day the Boso peninsula in Chiba is visible across the channel.
The beach is a straightforward summer destination from Tokyo, reached by the Keikyu line to Miurakaigan Station and a short walk. Out of season the attraction is earlier than most: Kawazu-zakura cherries bloom along the line here from early February, weeks before Tokyo's, and the blossom season draws a steady stream of visitors to an otherwise quiet beach town.
The rest of the peninsula is farming and fishing country. Miura is known for its daikon, and Misaki at the southern tip is a tuna port with Jogashima island just offshore.
