Mount Moiwa Ropeway Summit
About the Mount Moiwa Summit Camera
Mount Moiwa rises 531 metres on the south-west edge of Sapporo, close enough to the centre that the whole city grid lays itself out below the summit. This camera is the ropeway operator's own, mounted at the top station, and it streams continuously in several languages.
Getting up there takes two stages: the ropeway from the base, then a small cable car, the Morris Car, for the last stretch to the observation deck. The summit holds a viewing terrace and a restaurant, and the deck is a well-known spot for couples.
The view is why people come, and it is counted among the finest night panoramas in Japan. Sapporo's streets were laid out on a grid, so after dark the city reads as a lit lattice running out toward Ishikari Bay. Snow extends the season rather than ending it: the deck stays open through the winter.
