Oku Station and Rail Yard
About the Oku Rail Yard Camera
This camera looks down on Oku Station and the JR East rail yard beside it in Kita ward, northern Tokyo. The yard stores and services long-distance passenger trains, and it is the home base of TRAIN SUITE Shiki-shima, JR East’s luxury cruise train.
Shiki-shima entered service in 2017 as a ten-car sleeper with suites and a dining car, running multi-day tours from Ueno into eastern Japan and Hokkaido. Between trips it waits here, and its champagne-gold cars are easy to pick out among the regular stock.
Oku Station is a small stop on the Utsunomiya and Takasaki lines, one station out from Ueno. The yard tracks run right alongside the main line, so the view mixes passing commuter trains with stock being moved in and out.
