This is one of the best train-watching cameras in Tokyo. It looks over the railway scene around the Tokyo Shinkansen Rolling Stock Center, JR East's depot in Kita City where the bullet trains serving northern and eastern Japan are stabled, cleaned and inspected between runs.
That means a steady procession of Shinkansen in and out of the frame: E5 Hayabusa sets in green and white, red E6 Komachi units that couple to them for Akita, E7 sets for the Hokuriku line, and the newer E8 Tsubasa for Yamagata. Conventional commuter trains run past as well, so there is rarely a quiet minute.
The camera is published by Photo Publishing, a railway book and photography publisher, and it is aimed squarely at rail enthusiasts. Early mornings, when sets leave the depot for their first runs, and late evenings, when they return, are the busiest times to watch.
