Akita Area
Live cameras from Akita on the Sea of Japan coast, between Mount Chokai and the water.
Akita Area
Akita occupies the north-western corner of Honshu, facing the Sea of Japan. It is one of the snowiest inhabited regions on earth, and much of the prefecture's character follows from that: the rice and sake it is known for, the Kamakura snow huts at Yokote, and the long winter nights behind the Namahage festivals of the Oga peninsula.
Our camera is on the fifth floor of Nemu-no-Oka, the roadside station at Kisakata in Nikaho on the southern coast. The position catches both of the region's defining features at once: Mount Chokai inland to the east, and the Sea of Japan to the west.
The stream is free and runs around the clock. Use it to judge the weather before driving Route 7, to watch the sea in a winter storm, or to see whether Chokai is clear of cloud.
Pro Tip: Use our live cameras to check current weather conditions and crowd levels before visiting popular attractions in Akita.
