Nara Area
Live cameras from Nara, Japan's first permanent capital, and the mountains along its border with Osaka.
Nara Area
Nara was Japan's capital for most of the eighth century, and the city still holds the buildings and the collections from that period: Todai-ji with its great bronze Buddha, Kasuga Taisha at the foot of its sacred hill, and the deer that wander the park between them.
Our camera here is in the prefecture's mountains rather than the old city. It broadcasts from the Kokumijo site near the summit of Mount Kongo, on the Gose side of the Nara-Osaka border, where a hikers' clock and signboard mark the top of one of the most climbed mountains in western Japan.
The stream is free and runs around the clock. Use it to check conditions before a climb, to see whether there is snow on the summit in winter, or to look west across the Osaka plain on a clear day.
Pro Tip: Use our live cameras to check current weather conditions and crowd levels before visiting popular attractions in Nara.
